You have a smartphone to conserve on post-it notes and hand held calendars. You have a computer than stores millions of files, green car (maybe)...
Why are we considering car pooling or taking the bus or biking... I've biked my errands before approximately 80 miles worth and I have to say, rather challenging but I got a workout, fresh air, not to mention I There were many areas that were a little unnerving. I used the sidewalk whenever possible because as a runner, I notice those who text, talk, mascara- fixing, food-eating, multi-tasking having folk that don't realize that there are more cars, people, dogs, children, police, fire... who knows on the road. I have seen more near misses.. What I think is funny that there are so many people who do not fly due to "near misses" more deaths and critical accidents appear on the roadways and what's worse nearest to your home.
Biking: know your route: google.com gives you direction when taking a bike. Let a family or friend know that you are going to bike your errands; just biking your errands will help drastically. When the gas prices rose to almost $5 in Dallas, TX a few years ago, I started biking anything that I could... sometimes I biked to appointments or clients to work them out.
That is something that I do, mobile fitness- to keep more people off the road and help them save: time, money and gas thus having more time with themselves, family and organizing life. In Dallas, it takes 1 hour minimum to get anywhere. The time it takes for you to get off work, to the gym, change, and home is more than 2 hours. You let me come to you- I will take off an hour and a half. I am now in Memphis, TN and I also do something else that is very innovative coming to Memphis in a few weeks.
Check it out at Energy Memphis website.
Grow a Garden: The investment is small, the veggies and fruit are fresh. You again, save on gas and it brings the family together and teaches children: organization, responsibility and it may just teach you the same. Not to mention, they see what "healthy" really is.
Turn the lights out!! Get a game going with the kids, see if they can keep as many lights out as possible. We have a rule at our house, if you are not in that room- turn it out: light, lamp, radio, tv, even the computer.
Even insert new lights - those efficient kind, they don't look so bad. We have them everywhere even in the "fancy fans"
Work from home: Talk with your boss, if you can stay at home a few days a week and work from the computer, that would save a ton of money: dry cleaning, gas, lunches and stress getting to work. Studies have shown up in multiple business magazines that the turnover rate, and quality of work has improved drastically.
Time Management: a huge deal, when going green- I know of some people, that will remain nameless to protect their identity on Earth Day that have driven in circles because they don't know where they are going. It drives me nuts to just drive in circles; the sense of accomplishment is lost. I run out of time and then I'm stressed out. Just to come home: take an extra long shower, forget to turn off lights and the dog doesn't get fed (i'm kidding, but it I do get lost in that sense if I don't have a plan of action).

Church: or community events- are a great way to get together for a cookout, spend time together and learn how you can work together to save money, time and keep the Earth green.
Think about utilizing each other: Barter System: my friends and I use, I have a function to go to and I don't want to hit up another family member for the upteenth time or my daughter would like to have a playdate but I just can't get her there, or we can't coordinate a time. So, we barter- so and so friend and her husband want to go out, I'm not going anywhere, they can use me one Saturday night and I can use them the next Saturday night. We have a friend that likes to cook so with her, she cooks a dish for us and we dog sit once a month when she goes out of town- saves her a ton of money and saves us money and time from cooking or going out to eat.
Enjoy
